Coolest job in town - Zamboni operator

Zamboni operators  Michael Whittington, Sherry Belanger, and Rob Cady
Toni Lucas

Hockey, figure skating, and family skating fun is back at the MCC Arena with the return of ice in the rink.  The people that make the ice for this to happen include Town of Pincher Creek staff Arena Attendants Sherry Belanger, Michael Whittington, Rob Cady, Bruce Lybbert and Vince Beauregard.  Last spring the rink bought a new zamboni to replace the 30 year old machine then used to resurface the ice between. "It's not 30 years old, it's longer and taller, a lot smoother, and a lot more power," said Rob Cady, who is going into his third season putting in ice. A large difference is that this machine has a wash tank, allowing the crew to clean the ice as well as putting down a fresh layer.

"I like everything about the new machine," said Michael Whittington, who has five years of experience at the job.  Sherry Belanger has worked for the Town for 10 years and has 8 years experience putting in ice.  She agrees it is a better machine.  So when you are skating on nice ice, thank your Zamboni operator.
