Well Mustang football fans, this is a first for me, but in the likeness of Coach Tom I thought I would try to do a write up from our October 16th peewee home game, and I emphasize try.
This was a new challenge for me. A few weeks ago I was an assistant coach with little experience, and I heard a rumour that I may be coaching the October 16th game , due to the other Coaches had other commitments. I though 'Well. its just a rumour, it wont happen'. Well, all those who attended the game know it was not a rumour.
After practice on Wednesday Coach Tom gave me some tips and then later in the night we exchanged a few text messages, so I could get thing straight in my head. I thought I was set. I had my cheat sheet with my offence lines on it as well as the plays that the players know and perform very well (which is all the plays we do).
Well, 5:30 comes and the game's about to start... Coach Tom talked about pre-game jitters, if you could have looked that up in the dictionary that night you would have seen a picture of me.
Half time came and we gathered at our bench to regroup, and ready ourselves for the second half.
We started the second half with on offence and did make some forward movement on the field, but the Comets we able to gain control of the ball and scored two more touchdowns
In the end all I can do is thank every single player that was on the field for doing as I asked them to do. You guys are great, you know your plays and can perform great. I also want to thank Ian Anderson, Todd Merrick, Travis Liscombe, Logan Kaack, Dylan Stephens and whomever else help on the field. Without you guys it would have been a lot harder then it was.
That’s all for now,
Coach Jeremy “Firehose” Nelson
