Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) and RCMP were called to the scene of a vehicle on fire on Highway 22 approximately 20 km north of Highway 3 just before 9:00 am this morning. A southbound car struck a deer and caught on fire as a result. The car's airbags were deployed and the three occupants luckily escaped serious injury, but the car was destroyed. PCES responded with 2 fire engines, one from Lundbreck Fire and one from Pincher Creek. Firefighters remained on scene for a little over an hour directing traffic, which was reduced to one lane until the scene was cleared.

It is sad when a deer runs into vehicles. They usually give up their life from the encounter. It is very fortunate that there was no one hurt in this tragic occurrence with wildlife on Alberta's highways and byways.
