Town Council to write a letter of support for Rotary Performing Arts Theatre project

At the regular meeting of Pincher Creek Town Council on September 8, 2014 Richard Burnham and Scott Korbett appeared on behalf of Pincher Creek Rotary Club to update council on the status of the Performing Arts Theatre Project and to ask for a for a letter of support. The Rotary Club has had community meetings to see if there is an interest in this project and has determined that the next step is a feasibility study.


 
Rotary is trying to raise the funds to conduct the feasibility study. The club's goal is to raise $25,000 and then obtain a matching grant through the Community Facility Enhancement Program. Currently the club has raised $16,500. The grant date that the club was originally trying to reach is September 15. "We have some time constraints, but there is another one in December, too." said Korbett. The feasibility study is to look at different locations, related costs, rough designs and "To determine a strategy for the sustainability of the project so that this is something that can be used in perpetuity without becoming a burden on the community." Korbett said that they were looking for a letter of support, and maybe some assistance on how to write the grant application.

"It's an exciting project," said Korbett. "Every time we turn around we have encouragement from different community members, and places that we never thought we would get any encouragement. When we offer a social and cultural opportunity like this, we do put ourselves on a different map."

Korbet said that he is presenting an overview of the project to MD council later in September.

"I like to see good planning, I like to see numbers, and I like to see what the end result is like," said Mayor Don Anderberg. "To do that, you have to spend some money these days."

Council unanimously moved to direct administration to write a letter of support to the Pincher Creek Rotary Club to facilitate their application for a grant from the Community Facility Enhancement Program.
