Helen Mildred Westley
We mourn the loss of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and long time resident of Pincher Creek. Helen Mildred Westley passed away peacefully at Vista Village on the evening of Monday September 15, 2014 at the young age of 94.
Helen is survived by her son Clarence Fischer Westley ( Lorraine Plante ), daughter Rebecca Rose Spicer ( Tom), very dear friend Carole Ferguson ( late husband Tom ), grandchildren Shannon Westley, Crystal Gardner ( Chris ), Karmell Naslund, Danielle Naslund and great grandchildren Izabella, Brayson, Dailee and Nathan.
She was predeceased by her parents John Baptist and Ethel Rebecca Fischer, sister Pearl Hanrahan and close friend Clarence George Westley.
Helen was born in Spring Point, Alberta on May 22, 1920. In her words, she “turned with the year”. She received her nursing degree from the Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary, Alberta and was a dedicated nurse until her retirement. Helen worked in many communities before she and her husband moved to the Crowsnest Pass, where their children were born. They settled in Pincher Creek in 1961.
Helen went to Papua New Guinea as a volunteer nurse in the early seventies, served in the Lions Club in many capacities, including as a driver for the Care Bears, spent many volunteer hours on the Suicide Crisis Lines and other communities services.
Helen loved her family, enjoyed world travel and her many diverse friendships. She will be dearly missed.

A “Celebration of Life Tea” will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pincher Creek United Church Basement 972 Police Avenue, Pincher Creek.
