Serious injury collision in Calgary
On August 6 at approximately 9:30 am Lake Louise RCMP, Fire and EMS responded to a single vehicle roll over, where one of the occupants was trapped in the vehicle. When emergency crews arrived, the driver of a silver SUV was out of the vehicle, with the aid of passers by. An elderly female passenger was trapped in the passenger side of the vehicle, upside down. Lake Louise Fire Department was able to extract the woman from the vehicle, who was in serious but stable condition. Witnesses on the scene report that the silver SUV was eastbound from Highway 1 onto the Highway 93 north off ramp, and passed a motorcycle on the shoulder. The SUV failed to negotiate the T-intersection, failing to stop for the stop sign, and went over the embankment, rolling onto its roof.
The 89 year old driver from Wild Wood, AB and his 81 year old wife were both transported to the Banff Hospital. The woman was then transported to Foot Hills Hospital for further examination. The RCMP Traffic Analyst, is assisting the Lake Louise RCMP, who continue to investigate, but speed is believe to be a fact in the collision.
During the clean up of the collision, Lake Louise RCMP and a employee from Standish Towing had a close call when a Red dodge Caravan ran through the high visibility barricade, which was set up well back from the collision scene, and was well marked with emergency lights, and traffic control devices. Stephen SHARPLES of Calgary, has been charged with Driving with Undue care and Attention. No one was injured in this incident, but this shows the dangers Emergency personnel and those who assist them, face on the road way. The RCMP would like to remind motorist they are required to slow to 60 km/h when passing emergency workers.

Just before 10:00 pm on August 5th, an impatient driver set off a three-vehicle collision that led to a foot chase.
A Jeep Cherokee was heading Northbound on Jennifer Heil Way in Spruce Grove, when the driver decided not to stop at the red light at Grove Drive. Rather, he maneuvered the vehicle around two vehicles stopped ahead of him, and entered the intersection illegally. There, he collided with a car heading Westbound on Grove Drive. This car struck another vehicle, while the Jeep rolled several times and landed on its roof.
The occupants of the Jeep took off running into the nearby Deer Park subdivision, with witnesses pursuing the two men. One man, believed to be the passenger, was apprehended by police a short time later. He is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and remains in custody until his first court appearance on August 13th. The other male remains at large.
Police believe the Jeep Cherokee was stolen out of Edmonton, but are still trying to confirm this with a local dealership.

RCMP and Lac La Biche Emergency Services attended two quad collisions over the long weekend in remote areas.
The first collision occurred near the Old Conklin Road approximately 70 kilometers north of Lac La Biche. A 41 year old male driver was operating a quad on a remote trailer when he struck a tree stump and was ejected off the quad. The male suffered injuries to his pelvic area and was transported to local hospital and then later to an Edmonton hospital for further treatment. The male was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is a factor in this collision.
The second collision occurred near Touchwood Lake on a remote quad trail. This area is approximately 50 kilometers northeast of Lac La Biche. A 54 year old male was operating a quad when he struck an exposed tree root and was ejected off the quad. The male was cared for by friends and transported to the campground where he was treated by ambulance personnel. The male was then airlifted from the scene by STARS Air Ambulance and taken to an Edmonton Hospital. The male driver was not wearing a helmet and alcohol and speed are not considered factors.
