I would like to take this opportunity to express a heartfelt thank you following the horrific actions that took place on June 4, 2014, a day that will be remembered forever by Monctonians and by people all over the world.

On that tragic day, three of my colleagues lost their lives in the line of duty. We honour Cst. Doug James Larche, Cst. Dave Ross, and Cst. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan.

Cst. Eric Dubois and myself were also injured on that tragic day. I would like everyone to know that I am recovering well from my injuries. I wish to express my deepest gratitude for the support, encouragement, generosity, and the many prayers that were received from around the world in the days and weeks that followed. Without these prayers, the road to recovery would not have been possible. My career in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was a chosen one, and I will continue to pursue it with pride.
Thank you,

I would like to say thank you to everyone in the Greater Moncton area for their support and collaboration since the beginning of the shooting incident of June 4. I received so much positive energy from all of you through comforting thoughts and notes of well-being that it didn’t take long for me to heal from my injuries; this sounds incredible but is the truth.

I would also like to thank all of the personnel of Moncton Hospital for their professionalism and compassion at the time of the incident which was reflected in the care they provided and the top quality service I received.

Thanks to all of those people from across Canada and the United States that took the time to write something to me. It was truly appreciated, so good for my morale and helped immensely with the healing process.

Finally, a special thanks to the RCMP and my colleagues for all they have done for me, during and following this incident. We are a big family and I appreciate being a part of it. I would like to say more but if you take the time to feel the energy that comes with these words, you will understand the heartfelt gratitude that I feel.

I am proud to be a member of a great organization such as the RCMP which is built on a tradition to serve the community and all Canadians.

Neighborhood kids help bust arsonist in Leduc

On Thursday July 31st, 2014 just after 8 PM Leduc Fire Services and Leduc RCMP responded to a call of a car on fire in a lot North of the Leduc Common shopping complex. When Leduc RCMP and Leduc Community Peace Officers arrived in the area, some youth were already on scene, attracted by the smoke. As it turned out they had seen someone run away from the fire, and gave a description to police who followed-up on it immediately. As police began to patrol the area for the suspect the youth further assisted police by producing a photo they snapped of the suspect as he left the area. Further, the youth had kept a watchful eye on the individual as he hopped several fences in an attempt to leave the area. They were able to direct police who caught up to the accused in the Leduc Common shopping area between Walmart and Canadian Tire. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

"These youth were incredible. Our officers on scene were really impressed." Says Cst. Julian CELMS of the Leduc RCMP. "They made a difference by being extra observant yet, not getting directly involved. Clearly the future of our community is safe in the hands with these youth."

The investigation learned that a stolen 2013 Subaru XV was set on fire, likely by three people. No one was hurt. One 15 year old youth who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with Arson, Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over Five Thousand Dollars, and Breach of Conditions. He was remanded in custody to appear at Leduc Provincial Court on August 8th, 2014. Police believe two other suspects fled the scene - if the public has any information about other suspects please contact the Leduc RCMP (780-980-7267) or CrimeStoppers (1-800-222-8477).

Leduc RCMP wish to remind the public that being observant when something suspicious occurs or a crime takes place, making notes or taking a picture, and communicating this information to police is very helpful to a police investigation. However, police caution the public about the public getting too involved - keep a safe distance, call 911 in life threatening situations, and don't put yourself in a position to become a victim.

Conditional sentence for Alberta RCMP officer

Today, in Queen’s Bench Court, RCMP Constable Jason Clace of Boyle Detachment was sentenced to a 1 year conditional discharge. The conditions of the conditional discharge include 150 hours of community service work which must be completed within the next year. The sentence comes after Cst. Clace pleaded guilty this past June to a charge of assault with a weapon and a charge of careless use of a firearm. The charges stemmed from an independent investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) into an on-duty incident that occurred near Boyle, Alberta on September 23, 2011.

“Police work often involves making split-second decisions - and those decisions can have serious consequences,” said Chief Superintendent Curtis Zablocki, Acting Criminal Operations Officer Alberta RCMP. “In this case, our member made a judgment call, and has been subject to the processes in place to ensure police accountability.”

Following the 2011 incident, Cst. Clace was placed on administrative duties. After the charges against him were laid in September 2012, he was suspended from duty. In February 2014, he returned to frontline policing after an assessment of his suitability for active duty. The internal RCMP Code of Conduct related to this incident continues.
