The 2014 Alberta Summer Games were held this year in Airdrie over July 24-27. The three days of competition saw events in all areas of sport: on the indoor courts, outdoor track, playing fields and in the water. The Pincher Creek athletes who attended were part of Zone 1, named Sunny South.
The Games kicked off on the evening of July 24 at the Ed Eggerer Athletic Park. The stands filled with family and friends to watch the athletes in the Opening Ceremonies; the eight zones present to compete in the Games were each represented by a male and female athlete carrying a banner. Airdrie mayor Peter Brown welcomed everyone and thanked all those who had been working over the past two years to make the Games possible. "Through your dedication, discipline and hard work, you made it," he went on to say to the athletes. "Let's get this competition started!"

The Ceremony comprised of speeches, the entrance of the colour party, the introduction of the zones, music by local band Storm and finished with the lighting of the cauldron. After the Atco Gas relay team carried the torch throuh Airdrie, the city's own Brianne Tutt, an Olympic speed skater, handed the torch off to Jaden Straschnitzki, who lit the cauldron to cheers from the crowd.
