Medicine Hat Police Service
On August 14, at 10:54am Police, Fire and City Electric responded to a collision in the alley behind 530 D Maple Ave SE (Maple Avenue Furniture’s warehouse). A tractor trailer unit was backing up to make a delivery in the alley and struck a power pole next to the warehouse. The fire department quickly extinguished the fires. City Electric crews are currently on scene replacing the power pole. Power to the block will remain disconnected for approximately 4 hours.
There were no injuries. Total damage is estimated at over $10,000. The 26 year old male driver of the tractor trailer was charged - Back Up Unsafely.

Medicine Hat Police Service
The Criminal Code of Canada spells Cannabis (Marihuana), with an "h". The Criminal Code is the Federal Legislation that contains all Criminal Law and several Federal Statutes such as the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The CDSA defines Cannabis under Section 2 . 1 and spells the drug with an "h". This is also the spelling used when person(s) are charged with a Possession Offence under the CDSA. Both spellings of the word are acceptable, but we follow the spelling as defined by the Criminal Code.
St. Albert Crime Reduction Unit works with Shoppers Drug Mart
St. Albert RCMP
On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, two officers from the St. Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Unit attended at the North and then at the Central Shoppers Drug Marts to talk to employees about theft trends from the stores. RCMP work closely with the St. Albert RCMP Crime Analyst, officers from nearby RCMP Detachments and with Edmonton Police Service to identify rising crime trends and to develop prevention strategies to address the problem.
A concerning crime trend for all drugstores and stores that carry cosmetics is a rise in the theft of perfumes and expensive makeup. At these two stores, the St. Albert Officers walked through the cosmetic sections and discussed ideas with the store employees about making these products more secure. Some suggestions involve keeping expensive products behind the counters and closer to where the employees are stationed. Less expensive products would be staged closer to the store exit and entrances. Of course, good customer service is always a deterrent to criminals who often don't want close attention paid to them.
Many large stores have their own crime prevention experts that provide advice on deterring criminals, but any stores that would like to work with the St. Albert RCMP officers to strengthen their crime prevention techniques are welcome to call the St. Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Unit at 780 458 7700.

Pranksters plague St. Albert
St. Albert RCMP
St. Albert is still being annoyed by pranksters. On Sunday, August 10, 2014, a 55 year old female resident of Keillor Drive of the Kingswood area of St. Albert had her doorbell rang at approximately 9:30 p.m. When she looked out, there was no one around her house or yard. This woman called the RCMP as she was scared by this incident and did not feel safe in her home. The RCMP did not find anyone in the area and believe that this was the work of pranksters.
On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, a 69 year old woman living on Arbor Crescent reported that someone had thrown eggs at her home at about 4:30 a.m. This lady was very concerned about the incident and left feeling unsafe because someone thought throwing eggs would be fun.
Earlier in August, two other reports of egg throwing were received by RCMP. At 3:00 a.m., on Monday, August 4, 2014, a 75 year old female resident of Kelso Court in St. Albert alerted RCMP that someone was throwing eggs at her home. That same night, a 51 year old male resident of Kastle Point in St. Albert advised that someone threw at least 5 eggs at his house.
"St. Albert RCMP know that the majority of St. Albert youth and young adults are positive, productive members of this community." says Inspector Kevin Murray, "But as these egging incidents indicate, there are few misguided people out there that are making residents feel unsafe and victimized in their own homes and that is not acceptable."
St. Albert RCMP are asking for the help of the community to stop these senseless pranks by letting family and friends know how unacceptable this kind of behaviour is and by identifying those responsible for these acts.
