Mustangs donate jersey to Boston Pizza

Toni Lucas

"When we sat down with Herm (Menjivar)  and asked what can Boston Pizza do for us, we also asked what can we do for Boston Pizza?" said Mustangs Football mom and organizer Kim Lissel. She said that Boston Pizza Manager Herm Menjivar requested a jersey with the store number on it.  "I think it's cool, because it shows pride in our hometown," said Lissel.  A number of Mustangs from Peewee, Bantam and Senior level were on hand to help donate the jersey to the restaurant, and to take part in a new donation program.  "Anyone can let their server (at Boston Pizza) know that the receipt is to go to the Mustangs, and the Mustangs will get a certain percentage at the end of the season.  That starts today."

"We will put all the receipts together, and at the end of the year, we will tally it up and a percentage back of all the money they spent in here to be put into a fund for whatever they like," confirmed Menjivar, who was on hand to accept the jersey.  "We are going to frame it up, and put it right in the lounge."

As much as pro athlete memorabilia is prized, Menjivar says this is special to him.  "To be honest, I like the local jersey better.  You come in and go, 'That's a local team', and (that is) a better bond with the community."
