Piikani/Calgary teen Colton Crowshoe found deceased, victim of homicide

At approximately 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2014 emergency responders in Calgary received a report of a body in a water retention pond in the area of Stoney Trail and 16 Avenue NE Calgary. The Calgary Fire Department co-ordinated the recovery of the body.

An autopsy was conducted late this afternoon, Friday, July 25, 2014.

The victim was identified as Colton James Crowshoe, 18, of Calgary, formerly of Piikani Nation.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Homicide Unit is investigating. The cause of death is not being released at this time, but it has been classified as a homicide.

It is not known how long the victim has been deceased. This is one of the questions being addressed in the investigation by CPS.

Crowshoe had been reported missing after being last seen by friends in the Abbeydale area of northeast Calgary, sometime between 2:30 am and 4 am on Friday, July 4, 2014.

Colton Crowshoe's family is holding a candle light vigil on Sunday, July 27 at the Abbeydale Community Centre at 4:00 pm. They invite all who knew Colton and all who supported them as they searched to join them in prayer for justice and answers for Colton.  For more information call 403-464-9957 or 587-225-1316.

Statement: Allegations of Police Misconduct

Calgary Police Service, July 29, 2014 

Over the past few days, several allegations have been made against the Calgary Police Service with regard to the disappearance and investigation of Colton Crowshoe.

Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Crowshoe family, but we will not address or comment on these allegations through the media or in a public forum. Our focus remains on the homicide investigation and in bringing the person(s) responsible for Colton's death to justice.

Should any member of the public have a concern or complaint relating to the actions of any member of the Calgary Police Service, a formal process exists to do so, and those matters will be investigated under the provisions outlined in the Alberta Police Act.

A spokesperson will not be available to answer questions or reiterate this statement.
