Top baseball teams from Alberta and Montana will battle in Fort Macleod for the American Legion district championship July 24-27.
Baseball fans will enjoy watching top 14- to 19-year-old players in the tournament, which has a double knockout format.
The Fort Macleod Royals are hosting the four-day playoff tournament at West Winds Stadium. Competing Alberta teams include the host Royals, Lethbridge Miners, Vauxhall Spurs and Medicine Hat Knights.
Teams coming from Montana are Havre North Stars, Great Falls Electrics, Tri-County Cardinals.
The tournament is the culmination of a season that started in April for the seven teams.
Based in Fort Macleod, the Royals line-up includes players from across southwest Alberta.
Pincher Creek players on the Royals are Josh Foster, Colter VanEe and Deloy Mackenzie. Beau Walter is from Glenwood.
Fort Macleod players on the Royals are Ryan Cook, Aidan Kidd, Ty Odney, Peter Zmurchyk and Brody Zmurchyk.
Ryden Attwood is the only Nanton player in the Royals line-up, TJ Tornquist is from Lomond, Morgan Yanco is from Blairmore, Chase Snider is from Hillcrest, and Kolten Nelson is from Champion.
Players on the Royals from Lethbridge are Garet Burton and Kelten Jensen.
Coaches are Ben Paskal and Brad Kropinak. Royals club president is Keith Foster and general manager is Jacqui Cook.
Dave Attwood of Nanton is chairman of the district tournament committee.
The tournament gets under way at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24 with Vauxhall Spurs taking on Havre North Stars, followed at 1 p.m. by Medicine Hat Knights taking on Tri-County Cardinals.
Opening ceremonies are 5 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Royals playing Lethbridge Miners at 6 p.m.
Action resumes Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26. The B side final is at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 27, with the winner advancing to the tournament championship game at 2 p.m.
All games are at West Winds Stadium in Fort Macleod.
The winner of the district tournament advances to the state championships July 30-Aug. 3 at Lewiston, Mont.
The winner of the state tournament advances to the regional championship Aug. 6-12 in Alaska.
