albertafirebans.ca

In effect 6:00 pm July 23, 2014

The Calgary Wildfire Management Area has issued a fire restriction due to continued hot and dry conditions and high wildfire hazard.

The fire restriction includes the area from the northern boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park to the northern boundary of the Municipal District of Ranchlands, extending east from the Alberta-BC border to the forested area east of Highway 22.

Restrictions and prohibitions include:
  • Safe wood campfires are allowed in fire rings in campgrounds only. No open fires are allowed in backcountry or random camping areas. Current fire permits may be suspended or cancelled and new fire permits may not be issued.
  • Allowed in campgrounds: safe wood campfires within fire rings, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbeques (not charcoal briquettes) designed for cooking or heating.
  • Allowed in backcountry and random camping areas: portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbeques (not charcoal briquettes) designed for cooking or heating, catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
  • Prohibited or restricted activities: wood campfires in backcountry or random camping areas, charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers and tiki torches.
MD of Pincher Creek No. 9: Due to the hot weather and windy conditions contributing to drying of the fuels use caution in any burning. Fires are still permitted under permit, but some permits may be suspended if they are in proximity to the forested area due to the higher restriction in that area. Permit holders within the area of restriction will be contacted. Remember, all fires within the MD require a permit.

Crowsnest Pass: The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass has declared a Fire Ban from July 18 at noon until further notice due to widespread dry conditions. All current fire permits are hereby suspended until the ban is lifted. Fire Pits, Camp Fires, fireworks, wood or charcoal fueled fires and appliances are prohibited. Please note: propane fueled appliances are still acceptable. Thank you for your cooperation.

Cardston County: Due to current conditions and the risks of wild Fires surrounding our County, we are requesting that you use extreme caution while using the permit process. Permits may still be issued however, may be reviewed in a case by case basis. Conditions are subject to change and will be monitored closely.
