Slade Sonnenberg won Gold with a throw of 14.59m in the Boys Shot Put 6 kg Senior event at the 2014 ASAA Track and Field Championships held at Calgary's Foothills Athletic Park on June 6. He hit that mark with his last throw, and it was 0.96m further than his earlier best throw of 13.63m. Slade is graduating this year from Bassano High School, but spent a significant portion of his childhood in Pincher Creek, from 1997 to 2008. He was an award winning Offensive Lineman for Pincher Creek's Peewee Mustangs, and his sister Sarai still lives here.

*This was Slade's third medal at Provincials. He won the Gold last year as well and he won Silver in his grade 10 year (2012) with a final throw of 13.53m. He was a student at Brooks Composite at that time.
Slade is planning to go on to Nationals next, to be held in Sainte Therese, Quebec on July 2-4.
