Sid Marty and Wailback at Best of the West fest

Sid Marty performed twice at last weekend's Best of the West event. On Friday he performed with Joe Cunningham (percussion) and James Van Leeuwen (guitar and vocals).  On Saturday that trio was joined by lead guitarist Jim McLennan, completing the ensemble known as Wailback. Marty and Van Leeuwen took turns at the microphone.  Van Leeuwen's take on Blue Rodeo's '5 Days In May' was a pleaser (due to copyright limitations not included in the video below).  

As a trio they were laid back and entertaining.  As a four-piece there was magic in the air, and they delivered a set that highlighted Marty's thoughtful and often pointed original songs in a blissful understated way.  Wailback currently performs primarily at house gigs, where they enjoy audiences that are devoted to their sound and visions.  At Best of the West they wooed the crowd without pandering to it.
