Pincher Creek will be involved in the upcoming Relay for Life Canadian Cancer Society Fundraiser, to take place on June 21, 2014. Relay For Life is taking place in 20 countries worldwide, including over 500 other communities across Canada. On June 6 and 7 volunteers manned a table in the Ranchland Mall for people to sign up for the relay, and pins, lanyards, key chains and luminaries were also on sale.
Debbie Nelson, Emily Doell and Anne Dyck were available on Friday afternoon to answer a few questions. One of the nice things about the event is the luminaries. These white bags with holes in them are filled with a light source on the day of the walk and mark the way for those that are in the relay. Anyone can purchase one and decorate it. Many of these luminaries have been purchased and then personalized in honour of a person that has had cancer. "We are hoping for a fantastic fun day for everyone," said Nelson, who said that there will be entertainment throughout the day. "Everybody has been great."

Anyone wanting to register a team or join a team can do so by going online to www.relayforlife.ca. Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $100 prior to the race.
Most of the money raised from the event goes to research with about five per cent of what is raised being used for administration.
Relay For Life is scheduled to be held at the Pincher Creek and District Agricultural Society Grounds June 21, 2014 from 11 am to 11 pm.
