Toni Lucas
Dixie McAdam has organized a quilt display to be showed at Matthew Halton High School, Main Street businesses, and in the Ranchland Mall businesses during the Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG) scheduled to happen in Pincher Creek July 2 - 5. She is encouraging anyone that has a quilting project, new or old, hand or machine stitched, traditional quilts, or other quilted projects like table runners, bags and clothing, to enter into the display. "This is to give an alternative, cultural event between the sports. It shows that quilting is alive and well in Pincher Creek," said McAdam.

McAdam said that when Pincher Creek hosted the SASG in 2004 approximately 170 quilting projects were displayed. "We hope to have as many again," said McAdam who said that if everyone who has talked to her so far about entering projects actually does there will be over 120 pieces.

Each piece from place mats to full quilts will be displayed with a label where more information can be added and she hopes that the owners will share that information with the public. "Quilts are a story," said McAdam. She spoke of people getting together and each doing a different part of a single project, creating a sense of community. McAdam said that there are many reasons to make a quilt. Many are made for the pleasure of the craft. She said that there will be quilts that are planned to be displayed that are projects of celebration, and ones that were part of the healing journey of working through grief and loss.
