Stolen firearm recovered in St. Albert
On June 14, 2014 at 12:30 a.m. a St. Albert RCMP member was routinely patrolling through the Riel Business Park when he observed a white Lexus turning east on Rayborn Crescent. The member was curious to know why the vehicle was in such a remote location as all the businesses were closed, thus he followed his instinct and investigated.
After a brief search, the vehicle was located in a back corner of a private parking lot on Rayburn Crescent with three male occupants. The RCMP member approached the vehicle, obtained the driver's information and questioned him about being in such a secluded location on private property. All occupants, who reside in Edmonton, stated they were just there to "smoke" and "hang out".
A second patrol unit arrived at the location and that is when a firearm, wrapped in a towel, was located outside the drivers door of the white Lexus. Police checks revealed the firearm was stolen out of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The Hi-Point, .45 calibre pistol, which was loaded when found, was seized by RCMP and is in secure police storage.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid at this time, thus the identities of the individuals are not being released.
Detachment Commander, Insp. Murray stated "This is a great example of the solid police work that is happening regularly in St. Albert. I am very happy to see a dangerous weapon taken off the street and steps will be taken to return it to it's rightful owner."

Door-to-door scam in southeast Calgary
The Calgary Police Service is warning citizens following a number of door-to-door scams in southeast Calgary.
Police have received multiple reports about a man going door-to-door and asking for money in the neighbourhoods of Douglasglen and Quarry Park between Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 19, 2014. In many cases, the suspect told residents that he had been locked out of his nearby residence and that he needed cash for a locksmith.
In one incident, the suspect asked for a sum of money from an elderly victim and when he opened his wallet, the suspect grabbed a large amount of cash and fled the area.
Police believe the same person may be responsible for several of these incidents.
The suspect is described as Caucasian, 20 to 30 years old, 5’7” to 5’9” tall and 175 lbs. He was seen wearing a multi-coloured baseball hat, black shirt, blue jeans and ‘DC’ shoes.
CPS is reminding Calgarians to be vigilant and to use the following tips to avoid door-to-door scams:
Never allow anyone you don’t know into your home. It’s easier to close the door on them before they are inside than it is to get them out of your home once they’re in.
Never give cash upfront to someone that you believe to be giving false information.
Report any suspicious persons to police.
