More than 1,900 participants registered for the 2014 Southern Alberta Summer Games

After the preliminary registration deadline, 1,938 participants are registered to take part in the 2014 Southern Alberta Summer Games in Pincher Creek. The host community of Pincher Creek will feature the largest team of the Games with 390 participants.


“As we prepare to host the 45th Southern Alberta Summer Games, we are proud of our community’s enthusiastic response and are incredibly excited to be entering the largest team of participants,” says Pincher Creek Regional Director Megan Rainford.

The registration deadline for 5K/10K, 5 pin bowling, archery, athletics (track & field), cycling, handgun, small bore, tennis and trapshooting has been extended to Friday, June 13 at 4 p.m. The Southern Alberta Summer Games Committee hopes to get even more registrations and surpass the 2,000 athlete goal.

All events for the Southern Alberta Summer Games will take place between Wednesday, July 2 to Saturday, July 5 in Pincher Creek and the surrounding area. Opening Ceremonies will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. following an athlete’s parade. Everyone is welcome to attend and help kick-off the Games. Volunteers Required:

The committee still requires approximately 100 volunteers for all areas of the games especially: 5/10K run, athletics, ball hockey, baseball, cycling, equestrian, soccer and swimming.

Anyone with a few hours to keep score, run a stop watch, or help with various other duties are asked to sign up online at www.southernalbertasummergames.com or contact the Games Office at 403-627-4322. All volunteers receive a volunteer t-shirt and an invitation to the volunteer orientation/appreciation night on Tuesday, June 24.

The Southern Alberta Summer Games began in 1970 as a grass-roots sport and culture festival with an emphasis on participation, fair play and fun for the whole family. Each year, 13 teams or “regions” from across Southern Alberta bring approximately 2,000 participants to a different Southern Alberta host community – making it the largest consecutively-running festival of its kind in Western Canada, The Town and M.D. of Pincher Creek are thrilled to be the host for the 45th Annual Southern Alberta Summer Games.
