On June 2nd, Pincher Creek’s Major Dust Devils hosted Fort Macleod's Mavericks at Lions Park for a short but challenging game of baseball.
The game got off to a rusty start (pun intended) due to the heavy drizzle that awaited the players, but the rain had stopped completely by the second inning of the game, which was postponed until it lightened up a little.
The Devils, too, started off rather shaky, with the Mavericks leading 3-0 at the end of the first inning. However, during the second and third innings the Devils pulled ahead with 5 runs per inning, leaving the Mavericks scrambling to catch up. The final score was Devils 11, Mavericks 9.
The teams were surprisingly well-matched. Both teams stepped up to the plate with eagerness, making several hits, much to the enjoyment of the small but supportive group of onlookers.
