Fatal motor vehicle collision east of Fort Macleod

On Sunday June 22, 2014 at approximately 4:15 pm a two vehicle collision occurred on Highway 3 approximately 7 kilometres east of Fort Macleod in the eastbound lanes.  A 4 door Honda Accord sedan and a Ford Explorer SUV collided and sideswiped while traveling in the same direction along the highway.  The Honda sedan failed to maintain the lane it was traveling in and moved into the lane of the SUV causing the collision.

RCMP from Fort Macleod, Claresholm, and Piikani First Nation, along with Fire and EMS from Fort Macleod attended the collision scene.  A 52 year old male passenger of the Ford Explorer was found deceased at the scene.  A 55 year old male was driving the SUV and was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  An 18 year old male was driving the Honda sedan and was also taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time as police attempt to complete next of kin notification.

No highway closures were required for this collision.

Alcohol was not a factor.

The RCMP in Fort Macleod continue to investigate this incident and charges are being considered.
