Pincher Creek's Senior Varsity and Junior Varsity Hawks Girls squads hosted their Taber Rebels counterparts for a couple of feisty rugby games on the evening of May 8 at Sproule field.  Unusual for rugby in this town, the weather co-operated, with blue skies above, very little wind, and an almost dry field.

First up were the SV girls. A series of good tackles and consistently able support resulted in a 17-5 victory for the Hawks.  Scoring tries for the Hawks were Rebecca Lowry, Maia Jorgensen, and Taylor Wells.  Yun-Ha Jung finished the game off in style with a successful conversion.  Sophie Shimbashi scored a try for the Rebels.

Player of the Game was Pincher Creek's Taylor Wells, who is turning out to be a formidable rugby player.

Senior Hawk Alyssa Barbero is unfortunately out for the rest of this her last high school season due to a serious concussion, but she was on hand to help officiate and cheer on her team.

Taber's JV Rebels blanked the JV Hawks, scoring try after try and making good on a number of conversions.  As Hawks Coach Randy Whitehead says, "Every minute the JVs play is a good minute".

The Hawks were headed for a Sevens tournament in Edmonton the next day.  Planned for next Thursday, May 15 is an exhibition game against Crowsnest Pass with the possibility of Eagle Butte joining the fun.
