Knights of Columbus meet in Pincher Creek

Knights of Columbus visit Pincher Creek
Toni Lucas

On Friday April 4, members from the Knights of Columbus came to the Pincher Creek Ranchland Mall for a travel get-together. Although business was conducted, this was mainly a social gathering. It allowed 67 members from Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, Lethbridge, Fort Macleod and Brooks to assemble and keep each other informed as to what was happening in their respective areas.

Founded in 1882 by Irish-American Catholic priest Michael McGivney, the Knights of Columbus are a Catholic fraternal service organization created to be a mutual benefit society.  The three pillars of the organization are charity, unity and fraternity.  There is also a maternal order, the Catholic Women's League.
"As a parish priest in an immigrant community, McGivney saw what could happen to a family when the main income earner died, and wanted to provide insurance to care for the widows and orphans left behind." ~ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_Columbus
In addition to other charity work the Knights clubs in south western Alberta operate Camp Columbus, a youth camp in Waterton Lakes National Park that is open to boys and girls from age 8 - 14, regardless of religious denomination.
