Matthew Halton High School held Experiential Learning Week from March 24 - 28 in Pincher Creek and area. Each student chose a single course that they were enrolled in for the duration of the week. The school held 19 different courses during the week. The programs were offered in Pincher Creek and area with school, local business, and citizen support.
Halton Teacher Richard Brown was 'out of his depth' while teaching a class in scuba diving as he is a recreational diver, not a certified instructor. With the assistance of qualified instructors from Awesome Adventures out of Lethbridge, his students are well on their way to achieving their SCUBA Diver Certification. Brown said that his students were very motivated, and excited about the opportunity to learn about diving.
This course had classroom studies in the morning, then in the afternoon they went to the pool for hands on experience. Brown is excited that the instructors will return later in the season for four open water dives with the students. This is required for them to finish their certification.
