During the regular meeting of Pincher Creek's Town Council held on Monday February 10, 2014, Mayor Don Anderberg presented Bylaw Officer Nigel Whittington with a plaque for his years of service to the Town of Pincher Creek. Whittington recently announced his retirement.

"Sometimes I'm really happy shaking a guys hand, but tonight I'm really not that happy because I'm losing a dedicated employee," said Mayor Anderberg. He listed off various aspects of Whittington's duties as a bylaw officer for the Town of Pincher Creek. "We appreciate everything you've done, Nigel, and we're sorry to see you go. You've done a terrific job over the years, of course."

Whittington appeared to be very touched by the efforts of his former co-workers, and said that he was going to put the plaque above his fly-tying bench, an area that he plans to utilize more during his retirement.

"It's been a pleasure," said Whittington. "Working for the Town has been a bit of an eye-opener. It's not an easy job. I thought it was going to be, walking into it. It's a whole different level of policing."

He said when he was first hired he was told "Use a heavy hand only if it's was the last resort." Whittington found that very comforting.

"I thank you kindly, this is very nice, and much appreciated. I will actually put this where I can stare at it each and every day." The plaque was signed on the back by many of Whittington's associates.
