As of Nov. 9, 2013, the people of the riding of Macleod have no voice in the federal government because the “Honourable” Ted Menzies quit (a month before Parliament broke for Christmas) to take a job in the private sector.
The person we elected in the last election and who swore on a Bible to represent us for the next four years lied to us and left us to pay for a by-election that will cost the taxpayers about a half a million dollars, while he keeps his salary for the past three years and now can collect his elaborate pension for life.
Instead of having a costly by-election we should just appoint the runner-up in the last election to step in or Menzies should have to pay for the by-election himself. He caused it, he should fix it.
With all the scandal in Ottawa and Menzies’ questionable actions, I would wonder why we would ever elect a Conservative again, federal or provincial.
All the members of Parliament with the title “Honourable” in front of their name should look up the definition of the word and ask themselves if any of the definitions apply to them.
I phoned our consistency office in Claresholm and was directed to Mr. Menzies’ office in Ottawa where we are still paying two of his employees. They said they could do most of what we might need but if they can’t then they can direct us to the Party Whip (The “Honourable” John Duncan), but the only way to talk to him is by letter. He will not take phone calls.
In the past year all sectors of the government have stepped up and shown the true ugly side of their private elitist club and what makes me so mad is we can’t do anything about it but keep paying and trying to find someone who cares.
Glen and Linda Housenga
Fort Macleod

Excellent letter. I agree.
