Matthew Halton's Senior Girls Hawks basketball team hosted Nanton's JT Foster Raiders on Wednesday evening, January 8. The Hawks were flying fast and hard and won the game by a large margin.
The Raiders have a relatively young team after a lot of their senior players graduated at the end of the last school year. They are a tenacious team that are aggressive and go for the ball. Even though the Hawks took the first two quarters at 18 - 8 and 31 - 12 the Raiders re-organized their strategy and were starting to bridge that gap in the third. The Hawks came back in the vengeance in the second half of the third and continued on in the fourth to win the game 56 - 27.
"This was a better game for us from the games before Christmas, which was really good to see," said Coach Randy Whitehead. "The man to man defense was really good that game, which helped them get that lead. Better team play today, too and I was very happy with that, and the results for us. It was a little rough, but I thought our girls handled it well, and they kept our game plan, which was what we needed to do. It helps to keep to the game plan."
