Hit and Run Involving 8 year old pedestrian at Morinville Elementary School
The Morinville RCMP were seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle and /or driver involved in a collision involving an 8 year child near the Morinville Public Elementary School located at 101A street and 101 avenue in Morinville, Alberta.
This incident occurred on January 30th, 2014 between the hours of 8:10 am and 8:15 am.
A 35 Morinville woman has now been charged with fail to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and fail to remain at the scene of an accident under the Traffic Safety Act, and will be appearing in Morinville Provincial Court onmarch 11, 2014.
The 8 year old boy was not injured, but did seek medical attention for precautionary reasons only.

Two Hills and Vegreville RCMP lay 39 charges during Traffic Enforcement near school in Andrew
On Monday, January 27th 2014, Two Hills and Vegreville RCMP Officers conducted traffic enforcement in the Village of Andrew. The traffic enforcement came after consultation with the Village and members of the community coming forward with concerns for safety in the area in front of the Andrew School.
RCMP Officers were highly visible and remained in the area for the morning issuing 39 violation tickets ranging from speeding to licence, registration and seatbelt violations. The speed on that particular stretch of road is 30 KM/H which runs between the Village Park and School.
Speed was the common factor among all drivers who were stopped. Speeds were observed at times in excess of 40 KM/H over the posted limit.
Two Hills RCMP is urging motorists to be aware of the speed limits and traffic regulations in their area.
Man charged with firearms-related offences, possession of components to construct an explosive device
On Jan. 8, 2014 at 5:45 p.m., Cochrane RCMP responded to a call requesting assistance in locating an individual whose family feared for his well-being. Glen Gieschen departed a family residence on Jan. 8, and was located on his parents’ property outside of Cochrane, Alta. in the early morning hours of Jan. 9.
When Gieschen was found, he was in direct possession of a semi-automatic handgun. A subsequent search of his car revealed a suspicious package containing unknown chemicals and components that could be used to construct an explosive device. A loaded semi-automatic assault rifle was located in the vehicle as well as a large quantity of tactical gear including night vision and climbing gear. RCMP “K” Division's Explosives Disposal Unit, along with Calgary Police Services’ Explosives Disposal Unit and Calgary Fire Department, were called to assist and the vehicle and components were rendered safe.
Gieschen surrendered to police without incident, and is charged with several firearms-related offences as well as a charge for the illegal possession of the components necessary to construct an explosive device.
His next court appearance is set for March 4, 2014 in Cochrane, Alta. after a 30-day psychiatric assessment.
Cannabis Seizure on Highway 1 near Lake Louise
On January 29 at approximately 1233 hours members of the Cochrane Integrated and Roving Traffic Unit were conducting traffic duties on highway 1 near Lake Louise. A east bound vehicle was stopped for a vehicle equipment violation. The two occupants of the vehicle were detained for a Controlled drugs and substances act investigation during which police service dog "Maggie" was deployed and provided a positive indication of the presence of a controlled substance within the vehicle. Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a subsequent search led to the discovery of 10 pounds of Cannabis Marihuana hidden in various locations within the vehicle. The value of the seizure at street level gram sale is $68,000.00
Two males aged 19 years old from Vernon, BC were charged with Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. They were released and scheduled to appear in Canmore Provincial court on April 16, 2014.
RCMP Canmore conducts traffic stop; more drugs seized
On January 30th, 2014 at approximately 4:40 a.m., Canmore RCMP stopped a black Nissan Xterra for a Vehicle Equipment Regulation violation on the Trans-Canada Highway, West of the Town of Canmore, near the Banff National Park East gates. Police observed indications of drug use in the vehicle. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was detained for drug investigation. A Police Service Dog was dispatched, and the dog indicated that there were narcotics in the vehicle. The driver was arrested without incident for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
During a search of the vehicle Canmore RCMP located and seized approximately 1 kg of what is believed to be Methamphetamine and an extendable baton.
A 33 year old male from Saskatchewan was arrested and remains in police custody to be brought before a justice. Charges being considered include: Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, and Breach of Undertaking.
Organized crime is a driving force behind synthetic drug production and trafficking. Clandestine lab operators may use barns, sheds, single family homes or urban apartments as production facilities. The use of these locations pose a significant threat to public health and safety and also to the health and safety of ‘first responders’ because of the risk of fire and explosions, and the presence of hazardous by-products (including toxic fumes) that result from production.
Numerous charges laid after Stony Plain vehicle break-ins
On October 21st of 2013, Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP responded to a complaint of 11 vehicles broken into during the night in two underground residential parkades in Stony Plain.
Police utilized surveillance footage and forensic analysis to identify a suspect. A comprehensive investigation resulted in charges being laid in late January against 20 year old Maxwell Dion ROACH of Stony Plain.
Maxwell ROACH is charged with 19 counts of mischief, and 6 counts of breaching his probation.
He was remanded into custody on January 22nd, and made his first court appearance in Stony Plain Provincial Court yesterday.
His next appearance in Stony Plain Provincial Court is February 12th, 2014. He has a related criminal record.

Red Deer City RCMP arrested 26 year old Cody Feil of Red Deer on the afternoon of January 28; Feil was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large since December 12, 2013. Feil was located in the West Park area, but fled in a stolen vehicle. He evaded police and left the City of Red Deer. As Feil continued out of the city, Sylvan Lake RCMP, Blackfalds RCMP and Lacombe Police Service assisted the Red Deer RCMP in locating him. Two police pursuits were initiated in attempts to apprehend Feil. Feil was eventually arrested near Eckville, Alberta.

- Section 259 (4) Criminal Code – Operating a motor vehicle while disqualified
- Section 129 (a) Criminal Code – Resisting or obstructing a peace officer
- Section 430 (4) Criminal Code – Mischief not exceeding $5000
Feil appeared in court today, January 30, at 9:30 am Alberta Provincial Court in Red Deer.
