The Golden Suns edged the Rockies 3-2 and 4-1 in a pair of South Central Alberta Hockey league games at Crowsnest Pass. The losses drop the Rockies record to 4-19-2, which leaves them three points ahead of Brooks Longhorns in the race for the final playoff spot.

Most of the Rockies get a rest this weekend while the league holds its annual all-star game at Medicine Hat. Rockies captain Turner Sharp, center Cameron Gallant and goalie Sean Park will represent the team in the all-star game.

Next action for the Rockies is Saturday, Jan. 25 when they host Sylvan Lake Lakers at 7 p.m. at Pincher Creek.

On Sunday, Jan. 26 the Rockies play their only game of the season at Fort Macleod when they host Brooks Badlands Longhorns at 2:15 p.m.

Taber 3 Rockies 2

A powerplay goal by Taber’s Logan Wiebe mid way through the second period stood up as the winner Saturday. The Rockies had battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game, only to see it slip away. Gallant and K’s Thomson had the Rockies goals, with Jordan McAulay and Chase Snider picking up assists. Kyle Roberts was solid in the Rockies goal, making 33 saves. His teammates directed 31 shots at the Taber goal.

Taber 4 Rockies 1

The Golden Suns rose earlier than the Rockies on Sunday, scoring five seconds into the game on their way to a 4-1 win. That quick goal by Wiebe stood on its own until the Rockies evened the score mid way through the second period. While killing a penalty, Jordan McAulay shot the puck deep into the Taber end. The puck took a Rockies bounce off the end boards, Michael McTighe scooped it up and deked Taber goalie Scott Tersteeg for the tying goal. That was the only goal Tersteeg would allow as the Golden Suns goalie blocked 46 shots. The Golden Suns got two powerplay goals late in the second period and Wiebe scored his second of the game early in the third to complete the scoring. Sean Park made 48 saves in the Rockies goal.
