On Thursday January 23, students in grade 7 at Matthew Halton School participated in a chili cook-off.

The chili cook-off was not just for fun. Students had to make a display showing the key facts about their recipe, how it was prepared and cooked, including sanitation, cooking methods, and cutting methods. They also were required to make their display based on the recipe of a chili. This competition also gave students a hands-on approach to learning instead of a written final.

This was a competition between classmates and classes. Each group was assigned three people to cook a chili of their choice, and also to make a display in hopes to win the pot, which was the trophy of the chili cook off. The big prize was a pizza party for the most votes for the best chili.

Many students loved this competition and really enjoyed the hands-on approach that this cook-off offers. I hope to be seeing this tradition run for many years.

Mr. Sheen's class won a pizza party, having the most accumulated votes for best chili and best display. Pincher Creek Voice's Chris Davis won a free lunch, after conning Lloyd into getting Lloyd to do most of the work.
