This past week Canyon School had the chance for Trickster Theatre to come to the school. Trickster Theatre performers are teachers that come to schools all over Alberta and teach students how to work together. After one week of design and practice they perform plays for other students, family, and the general public.  Those public performances were held last Friday evening, November 29.

The performance started out with Mrs. Simpson's grade 5b class.  Trickster Rebbecca helped them make a black light play called “Space Party” about how aliens and humans overcame their differences to work together .

Next Mr. Lach's grade 3b class performed  a skit called "Let's Save the Earth" with Jamie as their Trickster. It taught  us how to be more aware of our environment, how to keep our environment clean, and also how to prevent more pollution.

Next up,  Mr Johnson's 4b class presented a skit about how we can work together to solve problems that would be much harder to solve if we had to do it on our own. The class played the parts of ranchers building a fence, when out of nowhere a monster comes to the farm and scares the children, so the children bribe the monster with a pig if he will go away.
"We Pull Together as a Team"

 "A Day of Hope"
Another highlight of the evening was the story told by Mrs. Mensaghi's grade 6 class about Iqbal Mesi, who was a slave in Iran who escaped from his slavery and told the people of children's rights.

Then to end the whole show Mr. Van Orman's class gave a very interesting shadow presentation about Sir John A.Macdonald and his journey to be the first Prime Minister of Canada.  I thought it was very original way to show how he got to that position.

The above were only a few of the presentations that Trickster had for us to see.  There were also presentations like class 2b's ''Buckets of Buffalos”, 5a's class play “Remember The Past”, 1a and 1b's skit "Paper Bag Princess", and 2a's “The Cowboy Problem”.

The whole show was very good as a whole, and I  think it was a very good experience for the Canyon School students.

It was an awesome show. A nice change from what has been the normal christmas concerts over the past several years. Christmas performances are good, but this show was funny and very entertaining and it seemed like everyoneone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed it (i.e. the calgary flames sketch with help from some of the dads).

However, Canyon School... why is the stage not used anymore. It seems like you have the perfect setup for such events by using that awesome stage. Additionally, it would allow for more people to sit down. I feel bad for any of the older people that were forced to stand for that long. I agree that the money used to bring trickster theatre was well spent, but that is also at the cost of having only a single show, whereas in the past there have always been two. This explains the amount of people that were forced to stand.
