The following is an overview of the nature of the complaints that the Pincher Creek Detachment received for the week of November 12 to 18, 2013. Note that the summary indicates what was reported to the police and may not have been substantiated.

Chestermere Break and Enter suspect arrested
During the week of November 5th to 10th, 2013 there were five residential break and enters along West Chestermere Drive, on Aspenmere Place and the Hawkmere Road areas of Chestermere, Alberta. The culprit(s) forced entry into the residences during the day time periods when the occupants were not home. Stolen primarily were small electronics and jewelry.
One suspect has since been identified and arrested. The arrested suspect, a 21 year old male resident from Chestermere was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Strathmore Provincial Court for a number of criminal charges including break and enter into the residences. It appears a significant contributing factor to the break and enters is a drug addiction. The local residential break and enters have since ended subsequent to the arrest and remanding of this suspect.
Some of the stolen property has been recovered from Calgary based pawn shops. The victims are being contacted to confirm ownership and to make arrangements to return this property.
Grande Prairie RCMP investigating Fatal Hit and Run
The Grande Prairie RCMP are investigating a fatal hit and run that resulted in the death of a 16 year old girl early this morning.
This morning at approximately 2 a.m. the Grande Prairie RCMP, along with other emergency services were called to the area of 99th Avenue and Resources Road in response to a pedestrian being struck in the cross walk while attempting to cross Resources Road. A south bound pick-up truck that struck the female fled the scene. The 16 year old female victim was rushed to a local area hospital.
Sadly, the female died.
This morning the Grande Prairie RCMP located the suspect vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, abandoned.
The deceased 16 year old has been identified as Cassidy DIETRICH.
RCMP continue to investigate and are looking to speak with the driver or passengers of what is believed to be an orange coloured vehicle that was eastbound and was almost struck by the southbound Chevrolet Silverado as it went through the intersection of 99th Street and Resources Road.
Numerous weekend collisions on QEII between Airdrie and Carstairs
Numerous single vehicle collisions and four multi vehicle collisions occurred in a very short period of time shortly after 8 am on Saturday November 16 between Airdrie and Carstairs on Highway #2.
1) Highway #2 north bound at Highway #72 had a pileup of 20 vehicles including one semi truck. Minor injuries were reported at this scene.
2) Highway #2 south bound at Highway #73 had a pile up of 15 vehicles including three semi trucks. Minor injuries were report at this scene.
3) Highway #2 south bound near the Dickson Stevenson Rest Stop had a four vehicle collision that involved one semi truck. One adult male was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
4) Highway #2 south bound at the Acme Overpass (Exit 305) had a four vehicle collision that involved three semi trucks and one passenger car. Three adult males from the car where taken to hospital, one of these males is in serious condition with life threatening injuries.
Fatal Motor Vehicle Rollover on Highway 43
On November 15th, 2013 at approximately 6:15pm Valleyview RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 43, approximately 20 kilometers south of Valleyview. Other emergency services crews were also dispatched. The lone male occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adverse weather and road conditions were factors in the rollover.
The matter is still under investigation and the identity of the deceased male is not being released at this time as per the wishes of the family.
Update: Dangerous Motorcyclist Removed from QEII
On November 14th, 2013 at approximately 1:30 pm, officers from the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit were conducting speed enforcement on Highway #2 north of Airdrie, Alberta.
A motorcycle was observed traveling north bound at an extremely high rate of speed. Due to the high speed of the motorcycle, officers were unable to catch up to the motorcyclist until he became caught up in traffic near the Olds overpass. At that time, the motorcyclist observed the officers, quickly pulled over, jumped off the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot.
Officers were able to quickly catch up to the 24 year old male from Calgary, Alberta, taking him into custody without further incident.
Prior to pulling over, the motorcyclist was not aware that officers were attempting to catch up to him.
Formal charges have now been laid against the operator of the motorcycle who was traveling at speeds of just over 200 km/h on Highway #2 north of the City of Airdrie. 24 year old Spencer Douglas WILSON of Calgary has been charged with:
WILSON has been remanded in custody and is now scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Thursday November 21st, 2013.
Cold Lake Fatal Hit and Run investigation continues
Cold Lake RCMP continue to investigate a Fatal Hit and Run that occurred at approximately 11:00 pm on December 19, 2011 when a 27 year old male from Frog Lake, Alberta was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Casino Dene located near Cold Lake, Alberta. The male was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital where he later died.
The investigation revealed that a vehicle was in the parking lot at the approximate time of the incident. This vehicle is described as a smaller, light colored, 4 door car that was parked near the entrance of the Casino Dene.
The RCMP is looking to speak with the driver, owner or anyone that may have information concerning the vehicle. Through investigation into the video footage, an unknown male was identified as entering and leaving the Casino Dene around the time of the incident, police are also requesting assistance in identifying this male as he may have information that would serve to further the investigation.
Armed Robbery downtown Fort McMurray
On November 14th 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the City Centre Auto Wash in downtown Fort McMurray. The initial investigation reveals that a male entered the car wash, threatened the cashier with a knife and demanded the money from the till. The suspect then fled the carwash with an undisclosed amount of money and headed towards the Landmark Cinema. No one was injured in the incident.
The suspect is described as light skinned, stocky build, 6’3” or 6’4”, 220 lbs, in his late 20’s or early 30’s, wearing a white coloured hooded sweater with a dark coloured logo and jeans.
The investigation continues and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP.
Desmarais RCMP investigates kidnapping of 9 year old
Desmarais RCMP officers have been investigating the kidnapping of a 9 year old that occurred on August 7, 2013. The assistance of both RCMP Edmonton General Investigation Section (GIS) and Peace River RCMP Forensic Identification Services have led investigators to rule out several of the names that were suggested to the police after a composite sketch was released to the public.
Through investigative efforts, Desmarais RCMP officers is now requesting the assistance of the public to identity of a male riding a quad on Ayouchais Lane, Wabasca, Alberta on the evening of August 7, 2013. This male spoke with the nine year old victim of this kidnapping and may be able to provide police with information which may bring light to this matter.
Hit and Run pedestrian accident in Blackfalds
On November 14 at approximately 1:00 p.m. the Blackfalds RCMP were dispatched to a hit and run pedestrian collision in the parking lot of the Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson dealership. Initial investigation revealed that a male suspect shoplifted a leather jacket from within the dealership and then exited to a waiting white Ford Explorer. An employee of Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson chased after the shoplifter and as he tried to intervene was struck in the arm by the Ford Explorer drivers side mirror as the vehicle sped away. The employee was taken to the Red Deer Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Blackfalds RCMP are continuing their investigation and have suspects in these criminal offences.
Highway 881 Collision
On November 15, 2013 at approximately 8:45 a.m. Wood Buffalo RCMP were dispatched to a 3 vehicle collision on Highway 881 at kilometer marker 170.
The initial investigation reveals that a welding truck was driving north bound when the vehicle struck debris that was on the highway. The driver of the truck pulled over to examine the vehicle. As the welding truck was pulled over a passenger car also driving north bound, lost control of the car striking the welding truck and veered into the oncoming traffic lane. A south bound propane truck then struck the car. As a result of the collision the driver of the propane truck was trapped in the vehicle. EMS, Fire and Police were all dispatched to the scene and the driver of the propane truck was extricated.
The driver and lone occupant of the propane truck, as well as the driver and lone occupant of the passenger car were both transported to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the welding truck was treated and released on scene.
Strathmore area male shot in face in suspected road rage incident
On Tuesday morning, November 12th, 2013 at approximately 5:35 a.m. the Strathmore RCMP received a 911 complaint of a male that had been shot in the face. The victim advised he was in the Wrangler Park Industrial area, a rural patrol area of Strathmore Detachment.
Members attended the location along with Emergency Medical Services (ambulance) and located the lone male victim. The victim had been shot in the face with what appeared to be a pellet gun. The victim was released by EMS and taken to hospital by the RCMP. The victim received injuries to his face but these injuries are not considered life threatening.
The suspect was located and arrested without incident by the Strathmore RCMP officers. Due to the proximity to the City of Calgary and the Town of Chestermere officers from both these jurisdictions attended to the Wrangler Industrial Park area to assist Strathmore Detachment members on the initial call.
The aggravating situation that caused this incident to escalate to a violent confrontation was believed to be from a road rage incident that occurred in Calgary just a few minutes earlier.
Subsequent to their investigation of this incident the Strathmore RCMP have charged Cailean Todd Roche, 25 years of age from Calgary, Alta. with the following offences: Aggravated Assault, Unlawfully Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and two counts of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace.
Cailean Todd Roche is set to appear in Court on Dec. 3, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in Strathmore, Alberta.
The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

- Two counts of Unlawful Possession of Another Person's Identity Document - Section 56.1 Criminal Code
- Improper Class of Drivers Licence - Section 51(b) Traffic Safety Act
- Fail to Produce Drivers Licence - Section 167(1)(a) Traffic Safety Act.
WILSON has been remanded in custody and is now scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Thursday November 21st, 2013.
