Pincher Creek's Midget Huskies extended their winning streak to 7 after blanking Coaldale's Cobras 6-0 at the MCC arena on Friday evening, November 15.

The Cobras shouldn't feel to bad about the loss, the Huskies have been defeating everything southern Alberta can throw at them.  They've played seven undefeated games so far this season, including an away against the Cobras last month which the Huskies won 3-5.  By my unofficial reckoning that puts them even with Magrath for current top of the Spud League standings with 7 wins and no losses each.

The Huskies  vs Cobras game was a much more hotly contested event than the final score indicates.  The Cobras peppered  Huskies #33 Jeremy Kretz in the Pincher net early in the first period, but a return volley from the Huskies resulted in a swift backhanded goal at the 18:42 mark by Huskies #9 Blair Goodreau, assisted by Liam Connelly-Engel and Colin Lincez.  Nothing else made it to the scoreboard for the rest of a high energy back and forth period of hockey.  What looked like a goal for Coaldale at the 12:44 mark was disqualified.  Both goalies were worked hard and responded with their best.

Jeremy Kretz was a superhero in this game, a fine display of goaltending under pressure from that young man.

Huskies #23 Craig Marshall scored at the 15:45 mark of the second period, right after a faceoff in Cobras territory.  He was assisted by Marc Sciarra and Zach Wall.  2-0 Huskies.

The Huskies kept the pressure on after that, and the game itself became chippier.  However, the score remained 2-0 up to the end of the period.

The third period was uptight and alright, both teams playing fast and furious, neither gaining an advantage.  With only five minutes remaining Blair Goodreau scored his second of the game for the Huskies, assisted by Jared Koentges.  3-0.  Just twelve clock seconds later Goodreau drove it unassisted to the Cobras net and in.  4-0.  Yowza.  Hat trick for Goodreau, who knows how to squeeze the most out of every opportunity, and how to create an opportunity if one is needed.

The game got even chippier after that, and the Cobras paid in penalties.  With 2:57 remaining Huskies #17 Jared Koentges added a goal to his earlier assist, making it 5-0. He was assisted by Chase Tymchyna.

I think the Crowsnest/Pincher blend is working for the Huskies.

Not satisfied with that, with only 1:30 left on the clock Craig Marshall scored his second goal of the game for the Huskies, and Blair Goodreau apparently wanted an assist to go with his hat trick so he earned one on that play.

Final score:  Huskies 6, Cobras 0
