Pincher Creek RCMP Constable Doug Sokoloski was awarded the Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association (ACOPA) 2013 Law Enforcement Outstanding Service award at ACOPA's Workshop and Annual General Meeting weekend held recently in Westlock.

"Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association has their annual convention and they award a special 'law enforcement recognition award' to the RCMP officer who is selected by the provincial committee for citizen on patrol," said recipient Constable Doug Sokoloski. "The award was something that was unexpected but as with any kind of recognition it was greatly appreciated."

Sokoloski was nominated for the award by Pincher Creek District Citizens on Patrol (PCCOP) Vice President Robyn Dowson.

"I recruited in the Pincher Creek area for citizen's on patrol and started with 9 and we are now over 50 members," explained Cst. Sokoloski.  "If anyone is interested in becoming a citizen on patrol, they can contact any C.O.P. member or contact me personally. I can take them for a ride and if they are still interested we will do training which is done every couple of months and is a two hour training session in which they receive security training.  Once they have completed this, they are good to go. The members also are there to help with natural disasters, collision scenes,  traffic control and special events."
