Well sports fans it was the GAME. This was the biggest game of the season for the PeeWee Mustangs as they ventured to McMahon stadium to play the Claresholm Raiders on Saturday, October 12. The day started on a special note when Calgary Stampeders DD Eric Fraser came to the dressing room to speak with the team. It is a special treat for the Mustangs not only to play on the hallowed grounds of the Stampeders but also to have one of the heroes in the room was truly special. A huge thank you to the Calgary Stampeders and Eric Fraser for making the day so special.

The game started on a familiar note with the pregame jitters carrying over to the first two possessions for the Mustangs offense, with fumbles turning the ball over to the Raiders in great field position. The Raiders with a strong run game were able to quickly convert the fumbles into touchdowns before most of the Mustangs realized the game had started. Once the Mustangs settled in the game was a very even affair with both teams having success with moving the ball. On defense it was Richie The Hammer Lagrandeur making a tackle to the right, Richie The Hammer making a tackle to the left. Of course this does not happen unless the corners of Giant Mathew Bruder and Caleb Cat Man Jones do their jobs, forcing the run inside.

The Raiders had little success running the ball inside with the d-line of Gus The Meat Halibert, Tysen The Man Teneycke, Ty Real Deal Anderson and Nailer Nelz Vance making numerous big tackles, often for losses. I think though the best defensive player was Giant Mathew Bruder, who despite having many runs and swing passes to his side used great maturity he stayed home and forced the ball inside so Richie The Hitman and his sidekicks Gunner Trent Metcalfe, Tenacious Tegan Teneycke, Evan Hitman Mahli, Curtis Ironman Giesbrecht, and Justin The Equalizer Nelson could take care of the ball carrier.

It was an exciting day for the offense as for the first time this year a Peewee Mustang player crossed the goal line with the ball in their possession. Isaac spiderman Webb made a beautiful run of 12 yards to be the first to score for the Peewee Mustangs this year. The Raiders Defense made it difficult for the outside run so the mainstay for the Mustangs was cutter Lance Paleo running the ball hard up the gut. Cutter Lance has shown steady improvement running the ball to the point now where a minimum of 3 defenders is required to bring him down. Cutter made a beautiful run up the middle, spying the open spots to score the second Mustang td on a great 30 yard run. Cutter's touchdown was set up by a long run by Richie The Hitman improvising a 40 yard run. Gunner Trent Metcalfe and Justin The Equalizer Nelson both did a great job of filling in where ever necessary both on offense and defense.

Well sports fans, in the end it was 5 lost fumbles and 5 scores for the Raiders vs 2 touchdowns for the Mustangs on a very special night under the lights at McMahon. Special thanks to coaches Mark and Dylan Barber for handling the bench duties, which truly is about as close to herding cats as one can get. Coach Tom was very proud of his players who to a person played about as well as they have all season. It is great to see the progress and the development of these fine young men and women.

Until next week when the Raymond Comets dare to venture into Mustang territory - please if you are interested in seeing the development of our local hero's come and watch -   this is Coach Tom reminding everyone that everyday is a great day for football.
