Boaters rescued from Bow River

Early this morning, September 3rd, 2013, Okotoks RCMP were advised of a family rafting on the Bow River were over due. The group of five were to arrive near Natures Hideaway on the Bow River at 8:30 p.m. last night. A concerned family called the RCMP when the rafters did not arrive. The group consisted of 3 adults, two children aged 3 years and an additional child aged 11 yrs. old.

RCMP Okotoks, with the assistance of Calgary Police Service Hawk Air Support, located the family approximately 15 kilometers downstream from their drop-in location. RCMP Okotoks ground units were able to get to the location near the family and bring them to safety. All were located without injury, other than being cold. Three dogs were also part of the group.

Apparently, the family pulled onto a sand bar to rest. Subsequently, night fall came quickly and the group decided to camp for the night rather than continue their journey in darkness.

RCMP Okotoks would like to thank Calgary Police Service for their assistance.

Two vehicle fatal collision on Secondary Highway 624 near Tomahawk Alberta

Drayton Valley RCMP are investigating a fatal two vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 7:00 pm Sunday evening, September 1, 2013 on Highway 624 between Range Road 62 and Range Road 63.

Investigation indicates that a west bound car collided with a east bound semi truck in the east bound lane of Highway 624 shortly after 7:00 pm Sunday evening. The 24 year old female driver and lone occupant of the car died at the scene. The 61-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the semi trailer truck was examined at the scene by EMS personnel but did not require further medical care.

Traffic in both directions on Highway 624 between RR 62 and RR 63 was affected for several hours while the crash was investigated. Traffic flow through the area was reopened before midnight Sunday night.

The family of the deceased has been notified but the identify of the deceased is not being released by the RCMP in the absence of consent to do so from her family.

Road and weather conditions were good in the area at the time of the collision.

The investigation into the collision is continuing but charges are not anticipated in this collision.

RCMP were assisted at the scene by EMS and Parkland County Fire Services.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision near Hays Lake

On September 2nd, 2013 shortly after 8:00 pm, Camrose RCMP members were dispatched to a report of a two vehicle head on collision on Highway 21 near Hay Lakes, Alberta.  Once on scene it was learned that a lone female in the southbound car was deceased.  There were two males in the northbound truck and both taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Vulcan area teenager sustains critical injuries after stunting on dirt bike near Longview

On Monday September 2, 2013 at 2:30 am RCMP Turner Valley, EMS and the Longview Fire department were called to Highway 541, twenty kilometers west of Longview, Alberta were a serious injury collision had occurred.  Witnesses told RCMP that a bush party was underway when a sixteen year old male, who allegedly had been drinking heavily, left the party and began to ride his dirt bike on Highway 541. He was not wearing a helmet when he slammed his motorcycle into a parked car.
Witnesses further stated he flew over the car and landed on the pavement. STARS air ambulance flew the youth to hospital in Calgary. RCMP located the boy's mother and rushed her to hospital so she could be with her son. The youth, who is a resident of the Vulcan area, has critical, life threatening injuries.

Fatal pedestrian collision in Lac La Biche

On Monday September 2, 2013 at approximately 8:30 am Lac La Biche RCMP, Fire Department and Ambulance received a call for a pedestrian collision.

The collision occurred on 101 Avenue near 105 Street in Lac La Biche, Alberta. A 24 year old male was traveling eastbound on 101 Avenue after turning from 105 Street. A 59 year old male was crossing the street at the location and was struck by the vehicle.

Bystanders who were close by provided first aid and started CPR on the male victim.

The male was then transported by ambulance to hospital where he passed away a short time later.

Police had the road closed for approximately four hours to investigate the collision.

At this time alcohol and speed are not considered to be factors. Police continue to investigate and it iis unknown if charges will be laid.

Names are not being released at the family's request.

Hinton area fatal collision involving a moose

On Sept 1, 2013 at 10:15 pm Hinton RCMP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 16, west of Hinton near the Folding Mountain Campground involving a moose and small car.

Hinton Emergency Services arrived on scene and found one female with non-life threatening injuries.  She was transported to Hinton Hospital for treatment. The male passenger of the vehicle was assessed by EMS on scene and was determined to be deceased.

The file is still under investigation.

St. Paul RCMP member struck by hit and run driver

In the morning hours of September 2, 2013 St Paul RCMP were responding to an unrelated call for service on Saddle Lake Cree Nation when a white pickup truck approached at a high rate of speed. Members attempted to speak to the driver of the pickup as it slowed however the vehicle then quickly accelerated and struck one Member with the back end of the truck before speeding away. That Member was transported by EMS to St Therese Hospital in St. Paul and was later released.

The driver of the truck was positively identified by Police as a resident of Saddle Lake. The truck is described as a white older model Chevrolet pickup truck.

RCMP are asking for any information as to the location of the person or vehicle involved or anyone who can provide information specific to this incident are asked to call the St Paul RCMP at 780-645-8888 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.tipsubmit.ca.

The incident occurred on the Saddle Lake Cree First Nation which is located approximately 170 KM Northeast of Edmonton.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the matter.

Slave Lake male found on highway with serious injuries

 On September 2, 2013, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Slave Lake RCMP responded to a complaint of an unconscious male laying on Highway 2 within the Town limits of Slave Lake, Alberta.  Upon police arrival, it was determined that an adult male had sustained several serious injuries. The male was transported to the Slave Lake Hospital and was later flown to Edmonton in critical condition.  The identity of the male is not being released at this time.

The Slave Lake and Edmonton General Investigations Sections are assisting with the investigation.

Missing Person in the Athabasca River

On September 2 Barrhead RCMP, Barrhead Fire/Rescue and EMS attended the area of the Klondike Ferry following a report of a possible drowning in the Athabasca River. At approximately 11:30 AM a 22 year old Edmonton male was trying to ford the river when he lost his footing and was swept away. Witnesses attempted to reach the victim but were unable to do so.

Klondike Trail Search and Rescue and an RCMP helicopter were deployed to conduct ground and air searches but were unable to locate the victim. Family were notified and attended the scene. The search will continue today (September 3) and a dive team is being requested to attend. The name of the missing male will not be released.

Drug bust in Lloydminster

On August 30, 2013, Lloydminster RCMP Detachment executed a residential drug search warrant in the 4800 block of 21 Street in Lloydminster, SK.  Police seized marihuana, cocaine, canadian currency, one prohibited firearm, one stolen firearm and two imitation handguns.

Jeremy Netmaker, 19 years old and a 17 year old female of Lloydminster have been charged with marihuana and cocaine trafficking, marihuana and cocaine possession for purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm.  Jeremy Netmaker has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in North Battleford on September 3, 2013 at 10 am.

Nicole Netmaker 38 years old of Lloydminster has also been charged with marihuana and cocaine trafficking.  The 17 year old female and Nicole Netmaker are scheduled to appear in Provincial court in Lloydminster, SK on September 30, 2013 at 10 am.

RCMP investigating suspicious death of Hobbema toddler

Shortly after 5:00 am on September 1, Hobbema RCMP responded to a call of an unresponsive toddler.  Efforts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful.  RCMP are now investigating this death as suspicious.  Hobbema Detachment, Wetaskiwin/Hobbema General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Section and the “K” Division Major Crime Unit are involved in this investigation.  An Autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday September 3.

Firearms were not involved. There is no information to suggest that this incident is gang related.

Lac la Biche search unsuccessfully for missing boater

On September 1, 2013  Lac La Biche RCMP continued search efforts for 69 year old male Donald Stratton who previously went missing on Friday August 30, 2013 on Lac La Biche lake.

RCMP  with the assistance of the Red Deer County Technical Search and Rescue Team and the Northern Alberta Aquatic Rescue Society an extensive seven hour search was completed. Teams utilized under water sonar devices, under water cameras and had divers present in the vessels.  The teams involved in this effort consisted of eight members.

At the conclusion of the search Police were not able to locate Mr. Stratton or any other debris or items from the vessel he was in at the time of the incident.

Anyone with any further or potentially helpful information in regards to this investigation is asked to contact the RCMP.

A search team will again take to the water later in the week.

The RCMP would like to thank Lac La Biche Fire Dept., Plamondon Fire Dept., Lac La Biche EMS, Alberta Fish and Wildlife, Alberta Conservation Officers, Little Divide Search and Rescue, Red Deer County Search and Rescue, Northern Alberta Aquatic Rescue Society and Lac La Biche RCMP victim Services and Sunday Creek Catering for assistance with supplying food to the search volunteers.
