Monday, September 16, Pincher Creeks Halton Hawks hosted the Immanuel Christian Eagles from Lethbridge for both Junior Varsity and Senior Girls Volleyball. The Junior Varsity teams took to the court first.  The Halton Hawks had no substitutes available for either of the junior or senior games.  The JV team this year has been put together with Senior students to make the requisite number of players.  This means that all games this year will be forfeited for JV Girls Hawks.  That didn't seem to dampen their enthusiasm any.

JV match
This game was the first game of the season for the Eagles, and the second for the Hawks.  For so early in the season it was a great game with good action from both teams.  The first set of three had an early lead from the Hawks of  2 - 0.  The Eagles then took flight and gained ground not allowing the Hawks to overtake them until a tie at 23 - 23 broke that trend.  From then on the competition was more intense, with the Hawks winning the first set 27 - 25.

In the two remaining sets of the game the Hawks stayed in the lead, with scores 25 - 11 and 25 -14  to emerge victorious.  Samantha Cyr is one of the young Hawk members and showed on this day that she has a strong serve and she was tenacious in going for the ball.

SR match
The Senior Hawks team looks much like the JV team because many of the same girls are playing for it.  The team will be facing a daunting amount of time on the court with many back to back games in their future.  That did not stop the Hawks, but the combination of the Eagles defensive line and good serves did.  Eagles took all three sets by scores of 19 - 25, 20 -  25, and 8 - 25.   It is still early on in the season and the Hawks showed some good teamwork out there.  Dakota Van Loon, Alyssa Barbero, and Hawks newcomer Raelyn Rutledge from Livingstone School are all strong players that show great action on the court.

Eagles Senior player #1 Erin Elegersma has an impressive serve and a willingness to dive for the ball.  A note for Eagle parents who weren't at the game, your girls were studying while waiting for their games, and cheering on their compatriots. These games featured well matched highly competitive athletes and were fun to watch.

good natured Immanuel Christian girls

Hawks Coach Sylvia Perry has been living in Pincher Creek for one month and has taken the Hawks under her wing.  "We are getting there as a team, it's early in the season.  My first expectation is that all the girls have a good time, and they come out,  they enjoy the sport and become part of the team."

Coach Perry would like to see improvement from the beginning of the season to the end, and I think it likely the Hawks will live up to that expectation.
