Town of Pincher Creek Councillors Jackson and Lauder announced at the regular meeting of Town Council on September 9 their respective election intentions.
Councillor Lorne Jackson said that he will let his name stand for the position of Councillor in the upcoming election, to be held Monday October 21. "I would like to keep at least some of the continuity, the direction that we've been going. I believe it's important to have an understanding of the direction that we've been going the last few years." Jackson said that, "We have been fiscally responsible and I would like to see that continue."
Murray Lauder announced succinctly "I'm not going to run."
With both Mayor Ernie Olsen and Councillor Don Anderberg both intending to run for Mayor, one of the two will not return to council.
This means that at a minimum four of the seven people will not be returning to the council. Roy Smyth, who was a member of our council for many years, passed away in 2012. Murray Lauder and Sahra Hancock have both declared that they will not run.
