A power pole caught on fire on Willow Street (between Fountain Tire and Foothills trailer park) created a power outage that affected most of the town of Pincher Creek from approximately 10:20 am to 11:45 am today Friday, August 2. The top of the power pole remained suspended in tangled power lines. According to Pincher Creek Fire Chief Dave Cox Fortis isolated the area most affected by that individual pole and restored power to the rest of the town. Crews are working on restoring power to the remaining affected area as soon as possible.

It is currently believed that debris and water created connectivity at the top of the pole, causing the fire.
Fortis Communications Manager Alana Antonelli said that approximately 2100 customers in the Pincher Creek area were affected at 10:20 am as a result of the pole fire. The majority of that population were reconnected to power by 11:45 am as crews re-routed power. This left 30 customers without power until the pole can be replaced, a process Antonelli said can take between 2 and 4 hours.
