A long weekend without a collision fatality

Alberta Traffic Services reports that there were no fatal collisions on Alberta's provincial highways over the past long weekend contrary to last year's August Long Weekend where eight persons had lost their lives due to collisions.  Integrated Services Unit officers were out throughout the province and issued some 4642 traffic violation tickets for various offences, including 3360 for speeding and 79 charges for driving in excess of 50 km/h contrary to the posted speed limit. RCMP officers further laid 172 impaired driving charges throughout Alberta over this long weekend.

Given the high volume of traffic we've seen on these long weekends and the fact that there were no fatalities on our highways this past one shows that the majority of Albertans are getting it," says Insp. Stephen Grant, Operations Officer for "K" Division Traffic Services.  "It is also attributed to our police presence and commitment to safe home and safe communities.

Integrated Traffic Units consist of RCMP Traffic Services members and Sheriff Highway Patrol officers working together in a collaborative effort to deliver effective and efficient traffic safety services to Albertans, with a focus on identified enforcement priorities.

RCMP and Sheriffs are integrating provincial traffic resources around the province.

No fatalities??>? What about the man who lost his life in Burmis, due to the high volume of traffic heading out for the long weekend on Thurs 1, 2013.
