Yesterday July 20 at approximately 4:30 pm Pincher Creek Emergency Services responded to a quad rollover near Garden Creek west of O'Hagan Road in the Castle Falls area which resulted in a woman needing medical attention.
Pincher Creek Emergency Services responded with Engine 31 from Beaver Mines, Pincher Creek Rescue, and an ambulance from Pincher Creek's station.
According to Emergency Services Chief Dave Cox it was realised on site that it was going to be a tough rescue due to the remoteness of the place where it occurred, so STARS was put on alert and Pincher Creek Search and Rescue was put on standby.
Cox said citizens in the area assisted with four ATVs, used to help medical crews get to the site of the accident as quickly as possible.
"As it turned out, we had a STARS landing site within 100 yards of the patient," said Cox. "That doesn't happen very often."
"Without STARS getting there so quickly it could have been a lot worse."
In addition there was good cellphone coverage on a hillside near the accident, which enabled a citizen who witnessed the accident to call 911 soon after it occurred. "That's unusual for a mountain rescue," Cox explained.
The patient was loaded onto the STARS helicopter and transported to Calgary with non life-threatening injuries.
Yesterday afternoon Pincher Creek Emergency Services also sent an ambulance to help in Fort Macleod, where emergency services were busy with a stabbing incident and coverage of South Country Fair.
