Dolphins break multiple club records, earn many medals, and establish many personal bests at SASG, Nanton, Innisfail, and All-Star Meets

Pincher Creek's Dolphins Swim Club has had a busy few weeks, attending the Innisfail Meet, the Nanton Meet, the Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG), and 5 of them also were invited to be members of the Alberta Summer Swimming Association (ASSA) All-Stars, competing in Edmonton the same weekend as the SASG.

Dolphins have achieved an incredible number of medals, club records, and personal bests at these meets.

The Dolphins are currently (as of July 17) ranked 7th out of 51 teams in the ASSA based on point scores for the best swims for all teams this season.*

Next up for the Dolphins is the Fort Macleod Meet, which starts tonight July 19 and continues through Saturday July 20.

Medals, Personal Bests, Stats:

ASSA All-Stars Meet

1% of all Alberta swimmers qualified as Provincial All-Stars. 33 swimmers out of 3269. 5 of them (15%) were Pincher Creek Dolphins.

Participating Dolphins included Christopher Alexander, Thomas Alexander, Matthew Alexander, Calvin Cooley, and Jarret Plante.

11 year-old Thomas Alexander earned 6 personal bests out of 7 events. Christopher Alexander (13) had six personal bests out of 8 events and set two new Dolphins records, one in the 15 and Under Backstroke (34.65) and the other in the 200 Backstroke (2:41.41). 15 year-old Matthew Alexander achieved 5 personal bests out of 7 events and set two new Dolphins records, one in the 15 and Under 400 Freestyle (5:35.37) and the other in the 200 Freestyle (2:28.45). Calvin Cooley (14) earned 7 personal bests out of 9 events and set three new Dolphins records - Boys 15 and Under 100 Breaststroke (1:24.63), 50 Breaststroke (37.88), and 200 Breaststroke (33.87). Jarret Plante (11) earned 7 personal bests out of 8 events and set a new club record in two of them - Boys 15 and Under 200 IM (3:04.19) and 100 Fly (1:27.22).

The Dolphins participated at the Innisfail Meet on June 28. 14 clubs were represented by a total of 343 swimmers.

Dolphins Assistant Coach Ardelle Layden and Dolphins member Jarret Plante tied with 3 other swimmers for top place in individual points with 36 points each from a total of 4 swims each. Calvin Cooley came close with 34 points from 4 swims. Pincher Creek ranked third for Masters Points.

Nanton Meet July 12 and 13:

The Dolphins won the Silver Aggregate medal out of a field of 8 teams at the event hosted by the Nanton Marlins on July 12. They earned 682.0 individual points and 96 relay points for a total of 778.

Christopher Alexander established a club record in the 800 Freestyle (10:53.81) and his own first time for the event. He also earned Gold in the 50 Backstroke (33.74) and Silver in 50 Fly (34.10).

Jarret Plante set a new club record in the 400 Freestyle (5:31.79). Matthew Alexander set a new club record in the 100 Fly (1:13.93).

Sasha Elliott set a new club record in the 50 Breast (1:05.99), earned Gold in Girls 7/8 25 Backstroke with a time of 25.39, another Gold in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 53.95, another Gold in 50 Breaststroke with a first ever time of 1:05.99, and Silver in 25 Breaststroke (28.65).

Tyler Sommerfeldt earned a Gold medal in the Boys 7/8 25 Freestyle with a time of 19.89, Gold in 50 Freestyle with a time of 46.24, Silver in 25 Backstroke (26.63) and Silver in the 25 Fly (28.87).

Calvin Cooley earned Gold in Boys 13/14 50 Fly (33.26) and Silver in Boys 13/14 50 Backstroke (37.61).

Taylor Liscombe earned Gold in Girls 9/10 25 Fly (18.33), Bronze in 50 Backstroke with a time of 47.75, and Silver in 50 Fly (44.07).

Erica Nemeth earned a Gold in the Girls 11/12 Freestyle with a time of 1:24.71, a Gold in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 44.40 and a Bronze in the 50 Freestyle with a best time of 37.42 (also a personal best).

Matthew Alexander earned a Gold in the Boys 15-17 Freestyle (26.86), Gold in 50 Fly (32.26), and a Silver in 100 Freestyle (59.89).

Sarah Sommerfeldt earned a Gold and a personal best in the Girls 6 and Under 50 Freestyle with a time of 1:11.39 and Gold in 25 Flutter (27.10).

Benjamin Cooley earned a Gold in the Boys 11/12 100 Freestyle (1:15.45), Gold in 100 Breaststroke (1:31.70), Silver in the 50 Freestyle, and Silver in the 50 Breaststroke (42.74) .

Liam Hinch earned a Gold in Boys 200 Free with a time of 2:33.96, a Silver in 100 Freestyle (1:09.92) and a Silver in 800 Freestyle with a personal best time of 11:15.59.

Thomas Alexander won Gold in Boys 11/12 100 Fly (1:31.19).

Hannah Nazarek earned Silver in Girls 15-17 50 Backstroke with a personal best time of 38.90 and Silver in 100 Backstroke (1:25.04).

Soli Cooley earned Gold and a personal best time in Boys 9/10 100 IM, Gold in 25 Breaststroke with a personal best time of 22.63, Silver and a personal best in 50 Backstroke with a time of 51.38, and Bronze in 25 Backstroke (23.68) .

Pincher Creek swept all three medals in the Boys 11/12 50 Freestyle. Gold - Tristan Liscombe (33.73), Silver - Benjamin Cooley (35.01), Bronze - Thomas Alexander (35.02).

In the Boys 13/14 50 Breaststroke Calvin Cooley earned Gold (36.90) and Ryan Plante earned Silver (37.80). In the 100 Breaststroke Calvin Cooley earned Gold (1:20.66) and Ryan Plante earned Silver (1:24.73).

Pincher Creek had the only contenders in the Boys 14 and Under 800 Freestyle. Christopher Alexander took Gold in that event with a personal best time of 10:53.81.

Pincher Creek swept all three medals in the Boys 11/12 50 Fly. Jarret Plante - Gold (36.63), Thomas Alexander - Silver (39.35), Tristan Liscombe - Bronze (39.63). In the 50 Backstroke Gold went to Jarret Plante (38.18) and Silver went to Tristan Liscombe (42.71). In 100 IM Jarret Plante earned Gold (1:23.92) and Thomas Alexander earned Silver (1:29.06).

In the Girls 11/12 200 Freestyle Gold went to Maeran Hinch with a time of 3:00.79, also a personal best for her. Silver went to Taylor Carson-Deley with a time of 3:02.92. Maeran Hinch also earned Gold in the 50 Breaststroke with a time of 42.86 and Gold in 100 Breaststroke (1:33.08).

The team of Hannah Alexander, Sasha Elliott, Kiera Hinch, and Taylor Liscombe earned Gold in Girls 10 and Under 100 Free Relay (1:30.59). They also won Gold in the 100 Medley Relay (1:43.91).

The team of Benjamin Cooley, Tyler Liscombe, Thomas Alexander, and Jarret Plante won Gold in the 200 Free Relay (2:21.34). They also won Gold in the 200 Medley (2:40.43).

The team of Christopher Alexander, Calvin Cooley, Ryan Plante, and Liam Hinch earned Gold in Boys 14 and Under 200 Medley Relay (2:24.04).

The team of Erica Nemeth, Maeran Hinch, Beyonce Crowshoe, and Maren Sommerfeldt earned Gold in Girls 14 and Under 200 Medley Relay (2:48.93).

The team of Tyler Sommerfeldt, Soli Cooley, Kullen Molaro, and Isaiah Nemeth earned Silver in Boys 10 and Under 100 Free Relay (1:28.04).

The team of Daniel Alexander, William Johnson Junior, Tyler Sommerfeldt, and Lincoln Sommerfeldt earned Silver in Boys 10 and Under Medley Relay (2:35.35).

Kiana Neumann earned Silver in Girls 13/14 50 Backstroke with a time of 43.90. Caleb Evans earned a Silver and a personal best in Boys 9/10 50 Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.03. Daniel Alexander earned Silver in Boys 6 and Under 25 Flutter (32.77).

Hannah Alexander earned a Bronze and a personal best in the Girls 7/8 Freestyle with a time of 22.64 and a Bronze in 50 Freestyle (50.17).

Kullen Molaro earned Bronze in Boys 7/8 25 Backstroke (26.37), Bronze in the 50 Backstroke (59.43), and Bronze in the 25 Fly (31.93).

Author's note: I've tried to use the most current stats possible, but some of the above stats are slightly more current than others. The Dolphins are establishing personal bests and new club records at a pace not seen in a decade.
