Tim Hortons hosts Camp Day fundraiser

Mountain Radio's Courtney Potts and Krystina Kretschmer at Timmies

Toni Lucas - It is said that coffee might stunt your growth, but any ordered from Pincher Creek Tim Hortons on June 5 supported Camp Day and helped the personal growth of two local kids. Staff, RCMP, Alberta Parks Conservation Officers, local musicians, and various dignitaries were all were on hand to entertain, serve coffee, and collect for the cause.

"We collect donations from our guests, as well as all the coffee sales for the day are donated," said owner of the Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod Tim Hortons' Mark Nelson. It's his third year sponsoring this event. Each of his restaurants are helping to send two kids to camp. Nelson has spoken to both of the girls that are going from the Pincher Creek area, and said that they are very excited. "They go to a camp in the Kananaskis, where they do team building activities, river rafting, horseback riding, rock climbing, and other activities that they may not normally be able to do. It's pretty incredible." Nelson is hoping to donate at least $2,000 per restaurant for the day. Last year's Camp Day raised a record $11 million across Canada.

Constable Jason Fichner and Constable Doug Sokolowski of the local RCMP and Alberta Parks Conservation Officers Bryan Sundberg and Matias Voramwald were a few of the people who worked behind the counter with Tim Hortons staff during the event. Larry, Trevor and Lloyd Kunkel of the Great Canadian Barn Dance Band played tunes for the patrons, as did Tim Hortons employee Emilie Kidd.

Courtney Potts and Krystina Kretschmer from Mountain Radio had already been at the Blairmore Tim Hortons location earlier in the day, and came to 'camp' outside the Pincher Creek restaurant to help promote the event and a free draw for camping equipment.
