The Livingstone Ladies Social Club held their 100th year anniversary in the Cowley Hall on Saturday afternoon June 1.  President Jo-Anne Elliott and Treasurer Lynn Bell and other members of the club were gracious hostesses to those that came to the event.

The Cowley Hall walls were decorated with quilts made by members of the club throughout its history.  There were tables displaying memorabilia from years past.  Some ladies even added to the celebration by wearing dresses in the style of days gone by.

The Livingstone Ladies meet five times a year in different members' homes and currently have 25 active members.  "We started with 14 members, back in 1913," said Elliott.  She explained that they choose a style and make a quilt annually that is then raffled to the members of the club.  "Eventually, we hope that all members will have a quilt," said Elliott.  The members then choose once a year which charity to donate their excess collected funds to.

Elliott was effusive in her appreciation of those that came to the event and that are supportive of the club.  After the Lord's Prayer was recited she served tea to Karen Poulsen who has been a member of the club for 71 years, and Shirley Mowat, Virginia Delinte, and Marg Hewitt, each of whom has been a member for 55 years.

Karen Poulsen said "It's been a lot of fun through the years. It's not supposed to be a working club, it's meant to be a social club.  However, we are very involved in the area."  One of the additional social duties that the club organizes is the annual Livingstone Cemetery cleanup.  This year it is scheduled for next Saturday, June 8.

Jackie Therriault
"I used to play in the old Cowley Hall before this was built," said pianist Jackie Therriault, who entertained during the event.  "I played when they opened this building with the Phil Lethbridge Band, I think."

Lethbridge MLA Bridget Pastoor was scheduled as a Provincial representative to deliver greetings and congratulations to the club on their 100 year achievement.
