Information for owners of stranded pets

The RCMP are working closely with the personnel of the Town of High River to bring aid to stranded pets of High River, Alberta. As the RCMP officers, accompanied by Town of High River personnel, search homes door to door, they are checking for animal residents as well as human residents that may have been stranded by the flood.

Pets that are comfortable enough to be removed from the homes are being taken to a pet Shelter. Animals that are more comfortable staying in the residence where the home is on higher ground, are being left sheltering in place. They are being fed and their locations recorded. Many dogs seem to be comfortable accompanying the rescuers to the shelters where many cats are seeming more comfortable remaining in their homes when safe to do so.

Pet owners that wish to report stranded pets to be checked on are encouraged to call 403 603 0263 or they can text 403 880 4842.

At this time, the RCMP are focusing their search and rescue efforts on any human population, while the Town of High River personnel are focusing their search and rescue efforts on the pet population. This plan allows for each agency to most efficiently use their resources, so the RCMP are asking that pet owners call directly to the above noted numbers to register reports about their pets.
