Crowsnest Pass flooding update

Municipality of Crowsnest Pass press release issued at 2:00 pm, June 22, 2013

The Local State of Emergency that was declared on June 20, 2013 at 7:00 am will remain in effect throughout the weekend. The Emergency Operations Center will remain active over the weekend, continuing to monitor the situation and will reassess the Local State of Emergency on Monday.
At this hour residents are advised:


  • Receptacle bins have been placed at the following sites in the community for debris that has accumulated from the flood, please no appliances, furniture or household garbage:

   -Behind the Municipal Office in Coleman
   -In Blairmore on the east side of the Greenhill Hotel
   -In Blairmore on 20 Avenue across from the Nippon Institute of Technology
   -In Hillcrest on the corner of 8 Avenue and 22 Street by the old ball diamonds
   -In Hillcrest on 8 Avenue by the pedestrian bridge


  • A Structural Bridge Engineer is expected in this afternoon from Edmonton to evaluate the status of bridges throughout the Municipality. An update will be provided as one becomes available.
  • CP Rail is anticipating opening the rail line during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 23, 2013. Rail traffic will be extremely heavy as the backlog of trains clears. Residents are asked to use caution around rail crossings. Your patience is appreciated.
  • Highway 3 will experience increased traffic loading due to the closure of major routes throughout the province. 


The Municipal Office will remain open throughout the weekend from 7:30 am – 5:15 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2013 and Sunday, June 23rd, 2013. The Municipal Office can be contacted by phoning (403) 562-8833 or after hours at (403) 562-2021.

    Are the roads to Cranbrook still passable? I'm heading that way on Thursday.
