On June 21st, the Blood Tribe Police Service were called to investigate a report of a person who had been missing since June 14 of this year. The ensuing investigation resulted in the discovery of human remains, believed to be those of the person reported missing. The deceased has now been identified as 25 year old Jaimie Black Rabbit, of Blood Tribe First Nation.
The Blood Tribe Police, in partnership with RCMP Major Crimes and RCMP Forensic Identification Section, are now investigating this matter as a homicide. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy early next week to determine the cause of death.
Investigators can confirm there is an 18 year old male in custody at this time. The male has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, as well as offering an indignity to human remains. The name of the accused will not be released, as he was believed to be a young offender at the time the offence occurred. He is also a resident of Blood Tribe First Nation.
The accused was remanded into custody, and will make his first court appearance in Cardston Youth Court on July 4, 2013.
