National Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day is Saturday May 11, 2013

On Saturday, May 11, the RCMP and other Police Forces across Alberta are encouraging members of the public to dispose of unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs in a secure, responsible and environmentally friendly way, as part of "National Prescription Drug Drop-off Day".

To find a location near you to drop off old or unused prescription drugs visit https://pharmacists.ab.ca/nRegistrationLicensure/FindPharmacy.aspx

Participating pharmacies in Pincher Creek include:
  • Koegler's Pharmasave, 1303 Bev McLachlin Drive, 403-627-2444
  • Rexall, 789 Main Street, 403-627-3195
  • Wal-Mart Pharmacy, 1100 Table Mountain, 403-627-1730
The event is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and is being held in partnership with the Canadian Centre of Substance Abuse and Public Safety Canada and locally with the support of Alberta pharmacists. The misuse of prescription medication can lead to many unintended consequences and harm. Therefore police agencies across the nation are increasing awareness on how the public could dispose of prescription medication in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.

People wishing to dispose of outdated, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs are reminded to take them to their local pharmacy for proper disposal.

This drug prevention strategy was modelled after the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and reminds citizens to get unused and expired medication out of their homes.
"Together, we can all contribute towards creating safe and healthy communities."
