Grande Prairie RCMP asking for help to identify armed robber

Update May 8, 2013: 24 year old male in custody

This morning at approximately 2 a.m. members of the RCMP's Emergency Response Team entered a home on a rural property that had been surrounded since Tuesday afternoon. Once inside the home they located the suspect in the attic. The suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.

The RCMP continues to investigate incidents that occurred Monday and Tuesday to determine if they are related and connected to this suspect. The suspect, a 24 year old male with no fixed address, remains in custody. The suspect is facing charges related to robbery, firearm offences and flight from police.

The Grande Prairie RCMP would like to take this opportunity to thank the media for publishing the photograph of the suspect and the public's response to the photograph. It led to a number of tips that helped identify the suspect and was valuable to the investigation.

Original story(May 7, 2013):

The Grande Prairie RCMP are presently investigating an unknown armed and dangerous male that has been involved in a number of armed robberies since late last night, May 6.  There was a brief pursuit this morning when police tried to stop a vehicle but it was called off when it became too hazardous.  Schools in the area were asked to keep students inside merely as a precaution for a period of time.  That restriction has since been lifted.

RCMP confirm that they have located a black Honda Civic that was stolen at gun point earlier today, along with two pick-up trucks that are believed to be associated with this investigation, which includes the pick truck that the RCMP initially tried to stop at approximately 10 am which fled from police.

RCMP and other specialized resources remain at a rural property and continue to attempt to bring this investigation to a safe conclusion.

The Grande Prairie Detachment are asking the public that if they know or suspect who this person might be to immediately call 911 or the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment at 780-830-5700.
