Canyon School started their Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart events on Friday, April 26.   Students have been gathering pledges since April 11 of this year.

Participation was strong with 108 students involved in the jump rope component.

The pledge goal for this part was $6,500.   Canyon School exceeded that goal by raising $7,932.20.  In the basketball  Hoops for Heart event 38 students were involved.  Their goal was $2,000 and the students ultimately raised $2,134.00.  This came to a grand total of  $10,066.20 earned in the combined events.

"I am very proud of all of the students involved!" said Sylvia Riedel, who has organized this event at Canyon School for 15 years.  "This is the highest total we have had since 2008."

The money that the school receives once prizes are paid for will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta in memory of Mr. Norgard.   Mr. Norgard was the vice-principal at Canyon School from 2008-2010 and passed away due to a stroke in January 2013.
